You Are What You Eat (Or At Least Your Hair Is)!

December 10, 2013 · Posted in: Salon News

Your diet plays a big part in the health, strength, and shine of your hair. Eating the right foods can really make a difference. Here are some foods that are the best for your hair:

Brown Rice

Brown rice has a high concentration of biotin, a B vitamin that improves your hair’s elasticity and reduces brittleness. You’ll also likely see thicker strands if you eat brown rice, as it nourishes hair follicles and stimulates cell renewal.

Swiss Chard

Keratin, elastin, and collagen are important to our hair. The magnesium, beta-carotene, vitamin C and sulfur in Swiss chard all help to activate the production of these proteins. Eating Swiss chard can make your hair strong, glossy and less likely to tangle.

Salmon

Salmon is rich in protein and vitamin D, both of which are important to strong hair. It also includes omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential to growing hair.

Walnuts

Walnuts also have a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids. They are also rich in biotin and vitamin E.

Chia seeds

Another great source of omega-3 fatty acids!

Figs

The iron in figs improves circulation and stimulates hair regrowth.

Kale

Give your hair shine by adding magnesium and carotenoids with kale!

Eggs

Eggs are an awesome source of protein. They are also full of zinc, selenium, sulfur, and iron.

In general, look for foods with a good amount of omega-3 fatty acids, iron, and biotin, as well as the other proteins and minerals mentioned here, to keep your hair healthy and happy!
