Everyone wants to get the most out of their color treatment. Spring is finally upon us and the summer is right around the corner. With it comes heat, chlorine and other elements that will really do a number on your hair color. Here’s a few tips to help you extend the life of your color.

Deep Condition

Deep conditioning your hair will ensure that it remains as healthy as possible. The healthier your hair is, the better is can maintain its color.

Don’t wash too often

The natural oils in your hair help to retain the color. Don’t wash your hair for at least a day before getting your hair colored to help protect the hair shaft and prevent fading.

Minimize exposure to sunlight, hot tubs and pools

The sun’s UV rays will dry out your color. Pools and hot tubs usually contain chlorine, which can discolor your hair. Adding some oil or conditioner can help to lessen the effects of chlorine. Or tie up your hair if it’s long.

Rinse with cold water

After you wash your hair, rinse with cold water instead of hot water. Hot water can damage hair with color treatment.
