Growing your hair out can be tough and often tests our patience. Hair grows at around 1/2 inches per month, so it can take a while to get the long hair you’re looking for. There are some who believe that hair grows faster in the summer though, so this could be a great time to get started! Below are a few tips to help those who are looking to grow their out.
We’re not just saying that because we’re a hair salon. Trimming your tips to avoid split ends doesn’t make your hair grow faster, but it does keep it stronger and healthier during the grow out period.
While washing your hair, massage your scalp with your fingertips. Start at the back of the neck and move forward around the hairline. A quick scalp massage will help nutrients get to your hair follicles more quickly.
Healthy eaters have stronger hair. Stronger hair prevents breakage and encourages growth. Eat a diet rich in vitamins and proteins.
Taking a daily vitamin that contains antioxidant blends and vitamin B derivatives can help increase hair strength. Biotin, another supplement, can also stimulate the cells that produce hair and increase the length of follicles, which has been linked to faster growth rates. It takes a pretty high dosage though (about 5,000 micrograms a day for three months).
When growing out your hair, don’t use a brush on knots or wet hair. Try to always use a wide-tooth comb and avoid synthetic bristle brushes. Also, try to avoid using heat tools without using a heat protectant spray or lotion on your hair first. It can be helpful to do a weekly deep conditioning treatment as well to keep your hair healthy during the growing period. Try a leave-in conditioner if you’re too busy for a deep conditioning treatment.
