Air drying your hair is a great way to give a break from blow drying, hot irons and other treatments. Although the concept is simple, if you don’t air dry the right way you risk getting hair that’s damaged and difficult to style.
Here’s some tips for air drying your hair correctly:
After your shower, squeeze out as much water as you can with your hands before using a towel. This will make towel drying easier and quicker.
Rubbing your hair with a towel can cause breakage and frizz. Instead, pat your hair with the towel to absorb the water.
Sleeping on hair that’s wet can cause lots of frizz and tangles. If you toss and turn at night, you’ll also be more likely to get hair breakage if your hair is still wet.
Hold off on using hair ties until your hair is completely dry. Hair ties pull on your hair, so if the hair is wet it will be even more susceptible to breakage. You’ll also see kinks and strange textures in your hair if it’s wet when you put it in a ponytail.
Whether it’s a leave-in conditioner, volumizer or other product, it’s a good idea to use something in your hair after you air dry.
For hair body, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair. It won’t be as harsh on your hair as fine-tooth combs are.
It can be tempting to touch your freshly washed and dried hair, but don’t do it! Oil from your hands can cause your hair to look greasy.
